Our Story
After living and working in London and Surrey for 20 years, owner and founder of South West Coffee Co, Murray James, had simply had enough and wanted not only a change in career, but a change in lifestyle… The South West was calling and a passion for coffee and cafe culture inspired what has become a thriving business…
Grab a brew & find out how it all began
Let’s rewind a little and give a short history on how our wholesale coffee business ‘South West Coffee Co’ was born…
I have to say I have been fortunate in my business development, working closely with friends already in the coffee business in the UK and Italy… When we moved to Devon, I knew we had a product that would stand up to the competition; and by putting my business relationships first and focusing on the individual needs of the customer, we have been able to develop a broad range of clients who enjoy being part of our story.
Our coffee is roasted in the foothills of the Dolomite mountains in Northern Italy. ‘Bristot’ coffee found its way to the UK in none other than Harrods of Knightsbridge; a nice introduction to the levels of premium quality we’re working with…
The other brand we partner with is ‘SUNDAY COLLAB’; a surf, beach, lifestyle branch based in Hossegor, Southwest France. The coffee is roasted on behalf of SUNDAY at the same roaster in Italy. The brand is highly environmentally sensitive as you might expect being owned by surfers, supporting both Surfrider Foundation Europe, and Surfers Against Sewage in the UK.
South West Coffee Co now have three cafe locations in Exeter, the original ‘The Tasting Room’ on Topsham Road which opened in October 2019, ‘The Tiny Tasting Room’ on Martins Lane and ‘The Undergrad’ on Bampfylde Street.
We also now have full engineering facilities at our Topsham Road site and are able to offer a wide range of espresso machine servicing and repair facilities. We’re still a fledging business in most respects, but through our dedication to quality and personal service we have established a name for ourselves and are looking forward to a bright future… Tasting Room’ on Martins Lane and ‘The Undergrad’ on Bampfylde Street.
